WORKING FROM THEMED POSES

'ROYAL' PORTRAIT THEME

Working from the model on two-week poses, students will learn to develop their own ways of drawing and painting the figure and explore themes including portraiture, anatomy, composition, narrative and colour.
SCHEDULE
*PORTRAIT HEADS - Sargent's method. The class will begin with a demonstration of John Signer Sargent's wet-in-wet method for painting heads
*THE MODEL ON LOCATION. The model will be in the studio and students will invent/imagine/remember a location or a setting for the composition
*DRAWING FOR PAINTING - Dance Troupe. A dancer will pose for quick drawings and the following week students will construct a multifigure dancer composition
*small painting/ BIG PAINTING. Exploring scale, students will produce two different paintings of the same pose, one small, one large
*FAMILY. Working with a real family group, students will be able to develop an age-old theme in art
*NARCISSUS. With a nifty positioning of a large mirror, our model will conjure a vision of the Ancient Greek myth
All materials are provided (except brushes and palette knives)
